Feel Good Fix – January 2016

Nowadays it’s nearly impossible not to feel overloaded, stressed out, or just simply like you have no time for yourself. There’s no time to stop, relax, take a break; but the everyday hustle can be detrimental to your mood (among other things). So, we’ve decided to help you find ways to improve your mood with our monthly Feel Good Fix! Think of it as a monthly homework assignment… for yourself. You can do it just one day out of the month, or every single day if you can. It’s all up to you and when you feel you need that extra boost of happiness.

Happy New Year!!!

Congratulations, you made it through the holidays! And we’re SURE that after a couple weeks of either visiting or hosting family and friends, you are all set up and ready to conquer the new year, right?! Yeah, didn’t think so. The holidays tend to be a stressful time of year, which is why our previous fixes were all about taking a break from the crazy. But this month’s fix is about taking action – this month, we want you to de-clutter!

The new year brings a sense of new beginnings and gives us an opportunity to re-evaluate how we want to live our lives. We make resolutions, we get motivated, we set out to make changes. One of the best things you can do before you begin anything is de-clutter and organize yourself for success. If your goal is to get in shape, organize your pantry and workout space. If you are looking to pay off some debt, then organize your finances. It also helps tremendously to do a general cleansing of your environment (home, office, car) to get a sense of preparedness. When things are a mess, you don’t feel ready – or motivated – to do the things that need to be done. Once things are in order, you have nothing left to do but tackle those lofty goals! Take the time this month to break down the necessary areas of importance and clean out the junk, organize, and plan – then get ready to make it a fantastic new year!

NotSo30s is Going on a 21 Day Fix

We’re stuffed.

Yes, post-Thanksgiving we are walking around and can’t see our toes…

Let’s be honest… We haven’t seen our toes in a while. We are going back to something that we know is healthy and is just what our waistlines need.

NotSo30s is going on a 21 Day Fix…

Melissa and I have sat here making our shopping lists, looking up recipes, and planning out our week. We will be posting our favorite recipes from the week, and any useful tips that come up along the way.

Sweating for the Wedding (Dress)

Today, I tried on my wedding dress… With just over 3 months to go until my wedding I needed to know how it fit.

The zipper did not go up all the way. It didn’t fit.

I definitely was NOT happy. Yet, I didn’t panic. I didn’t cry.

I became MORE motivated than ever before to help lose weight and become fit and healthy for my wedding day, and beyond! As soon as I took off my wedding dress, I put my workout clothes and sneakers ON. I popped in my TurboFire DVD and got to WORK.

No Excuses.

No Quick Fixes.

I’m all about HARD WORK right now. I put in my Soul Mate workout and got to WORK with my Soul Mate trainer! Chalene Johnson makes me feel like I can reach my goals. I know I can. I will sweat for it. I will meal prep for it.

I will fit in my wedding dress and ROCK it in just 3 months.

NotSo30s - Sweating For The Wedding

Let’s Go!

I Wonder…

Dont Give Up

Have you ever wondered what your full potential was/is? I do, especially this morning. I wonder where I would be if I stopped making excuses and settling with my health, my fitness, my career and my day-to-day life. Sometimes you realize you have wasted time in your life. That’s OK, as long as you open your eyes and move forward! Be better! You are capable of achieving any goal you set, as long as you stick to it and put in the work!

Managing Goals and Daily Life with an App!

Let’s talk…

Do you feel as if your days are just flipping past you and that you haven’t done anything useful with your time?

Do you feel as if your life is a bit stagnant?

Do you feel as if your day-to-day responsibilities are a bit out of control?

Do you feel like you keep making goals but have NO way of achieving them?

I completely understand how you feel. We ALL go through these phases in our lives. I went through a major one. Also, we all sometimes slip back into poor habits and need to re-focus.

Here are the biggest and best tips I can give you…

  1. WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN. Be it on paper or with the use of an app (see #3), make sure you write everrrrrything down. A small task you need to do. A large project you want to start. Short-term and long-term goals. Write them down! Sometimes those amazing ideas that spring into our minds leave our brains just as quickly as they entered, even when you think you just can’t forget such an amazing idea. If you have one place to write everything down, your ideas will stay with you! Don’t rely on just your memory. Your brain does a lot of work every day. Help it out. Also, find one place for all of this info. A notebook, a planner or a smart phone app are your best bets!
  2. WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS, THEN BREAK THEM DOWN INTO EACH STEP NEEDED TO ACHIEVE THOSE GOALS. It is too easy to set goals. Watch. “I want to lose 25 pounds.” or “I want to make an additional $1,000 a month in income.” or “I want to reduce my debt by 50% in 6 months.” Boom. Goals set. Now what?? This is the most important part. Break down each and every goal to the small steps that need to occur in order for you to achieve those goals. Then, make yourself accountable for hitting those small steps. Set aside time every day to work on your goals. Give yourself realistic deadlines. Just make sure you stick to it!
  3. A SMART PHONE APP CAN HELP YOU ORGANIZE YOUR TASKS AND GOALS. There are tons of apps out there to help organize your tasks and calendar. Some are free and some aren’t. Utilize these tools! You can set alarms, make lists, share lists, etc. Once you set your goals and reminders just refer back to your phone throughout the day to make sure you are achieving the tasks and goals you set for the day. No need to re-write lists by hand once you enter them into an app. It is an amazing feeling when you get to check off tasks as completed.

Now a few days ago I mentioned an app that I love. Well, I loooove it. Looooove loooove it. It is called Priorities and I found it on the Apple App Store. The app has quite a few features that I consider a MUST. You can SHARE pages. “Pages” are for different types of lists. Here is a screen shot of my pages.

Not So 30s - Priorities Pages

As you can see, I have categorized some of my priorities and also included a reminders page. Within each page you can add tasks and lists! The app cost a few dollars, but I have already made that back with all of the tasks I have completed.

Not So 30s - Priorities List

As you can see here, I have a lot of tasks under my Wedding Planning page. Little by little I AM knocking these off the list. I have to admit, every single time I check off one of my completed tasks, I feel a little bit better about what I have achieved that day!

Project Last 29 of 29… 29 Days to Go!

Today was a big day for my fiancé and me…

8 months ago we committed to working on our finances, becoming more fiscally responsible, and to become homeowners. We both live with our respective families. The time had come to make the leap into moving in together and have the responsibility of a mortgage.

With the help, structure and guidance of the NACA program…

Today we received our mortgage qualification approval.

It is one sheet of paper that changes our world. We have worked so hard for today. We can see in our near future that we will be FIRST time homeowners!

This is a FANTASTIC achievement for us just before my 30th birthday… And one helluva way to start my Project Last 29 of 29!

Project Last 29 of 29!

When I first had the idea to create a blog I wanted to find a way to express myself, document my ideas, and to help make myself a better person! I looked into the not so distant future and gave myself a goal of getting myself on track to be a better my by my 30th birthday.

Wedding planning, a busy work schedule and preparing to purchase my first home has consumed me the last few months. I didn’t really pay attention to the calendar until yesterday when I realized just how near my birthday is!

In 29 short days I will be 30 years old.

Before, turning 30 was a horrifying thought. An indication of aging and leaving the land of youth. Today, I couldn’t feel more different. 30 isn’t the punishment I expected. 30 is going to be my BEST year.

Yet, the last bit of my 20’s should be celebrated as well… For that reason, I will be celebrating the Last 29 of my 29! I will make sure that each and every one of my days includes some time of milestone, celebration, excitement or special meaning. Later today I will be posting today’s Last 29 of 29 tribute… I will be receiving something at a meeting this afternoon that I have DREAMT of for years, and have diligently worked with my fiance to obtain since July of last year.

Stay tuned. I can’t wait to share these 29 with you!

My 21 Day Fix Round 1 Results!

Most everyone has seen the same stock before and after images of 21 Day Fix results. Some of them are from one round, others are the before/after results of multiple rounds. I have to admit that the picture that was MOST encouraging was the one of the woman who lost approximately 96 pounds after 10 rounds of 21 Day Fix. Why did this one really get my attention? Because I don’t have 10-15 pounds to lose… I have OVER 50 pounds to lose! That picture SHOWED me that this program could work on a plus size person.

Last week I completed my FIRST round of 21 Day Fix, and I have to admit – I loved it. This program isn’t the “easy way out”. No. I worked for my weight loss. I exercised EVERY day. I ate HEALTHY. I didn’t pop pills. I was careful with portion control.

Well, here it is ladies and gentleman. MY 21 Day Fix Round 1 Results!

  • Left Arm: No Change
  • Right Arm: -0.5 inches
  • Chest: -2.25 inches
  • Waist: -4 inches
  • Hips: -2 inches
  • Left Leg: No Change
  • Right Leg: -0.25 inches

TOTAL WEIGHT LOST: 11.8 POUNDS! In just 21 Days!

I placed my measurements first, as I believe that is where the emphasis should always be!

And for visual proof, here are my before and after pictures. Yes, the photography technique needs improvement… I will work on that for this round… But check out my belly/waist… I FEEEEEL the difference in my clothes. It is AWESOME!

Here are MY 21 Day Fix first round results. Progress is important!

I loved this program so much that I am starting ROUND 2 with my challenge group today!  We are also already planning our APRIL round of 21 Day Fix. Interested in joining? Let me know! I would love to help guide YOU to your goals!

Have a great day!!

Juggling Act…

This post is more of a request for ideas…

How does everyone manage to juggle the priorities of their days? What techniques do you use to take care of home, family, nutrition, scheduling, work, errands, and projects?

I know and utilize some WONDERFUL techniques, but lately I am finding it very hard to get everything accomplished. My unfinished tasks are starting to snowball, and the added pressure/stress that it brings is NOT making me happy.

My to-do lists are organized and my main way of getting things done and remembering important tasks… Yet… My list of to-dos is getting looooonger and loooooooooooonger and loooooooooooooooooooooooonger. (Has human cloning been perfected yet? Another Angie might be just what I need…)

How do YOU balance all of the responsibilities and priorities of YOUR day?

My Why…

We all have reasons and motivations to accomplish both the largest to the most miniscule tasks and goals in our lives. The reason you do something can be as simple as, “why did I get a glass of water?”… because I was thirsty….

What about the more meaningful and impactful decisions, goals and achievements in your life? What is your “why”?

Why did you finish your college degree? Why did you choose to go BACK to school? Why are you putting in extra hours at work? Or how about… Why are you making a lifestyle change? Why have you quit smoking? Why have you decided to start eating clean and healthy? Why have you decided to get your family involved in more physical activity?

Look deeper into yourself than the plain “I want to be healthier”, “I want to make more money”, or “I want to lose weight” answers. Those are generic. EVERYONE wants to be healthier… EVERYONE wants to earn more money… EVERYONE wants to be able to lose those extra pounds…

YOUR why is personal. No one else can repeat the answer to that question in the same manner that you do.

How about a 5 minute brainstorm on “your why”…

  • Grab a sheet of paper.
  • In the center of that paper write your main goal and circle it.
  • Now find three reasons you want to achieve that goal and write each one in a separate circle around your main goal. (Yes, you can list a few “generic” reasons that other people may also write if they were answering this.
  • Next, take some time to review your three reasons and truly think about WHY these reasons are important to YOU. What is going on in YOUR life that has led you to this main goal? For example: If your main goal is to get a promotion, one of your three reasons for this goal is to make more money. Why? Do you have debt you want to pay down? List that debt! Do you have a child you want to save money to send to college? List that child’s name and your hopes for their college achievements! BE SPECIFIC! Most importantly, make sure these are PERSONAL reasons.
  • Take some time to really think about your reasons. Be honest with yourself. There is no one you need to impress. This isn’t an assignment you need to turn in.

Remember, this is for YOU. This is something you can look back at when you feel as though you are off track or need motivation. The generic reasons never get us moving… They don’t shake us to our core. They don’t make us get off the couch and do more. We look at those generic reasons and say, “yea… I’ll get to that tomorrow.”

Our PERSONAL reasons, OUR WHYS, are what get us moving… They are the reason we strive to achieve our goals and what we want in life…

I’m sharing my “WHY” with you below… Let me know what you came up with! Did you realize something about yourself that you didn’t really give much thought to before? Did writing it down help you visualize your goals?

Sorry that the borders were cut off. My scanner did scan all the way to the edge of the paper. Oh! I'm also sorry that you have to read my handwriting!

So take a few minutes, and really think about what is your why… Feel free to share yours!
