Sweating for the Wedding (Dress)

Today, I tried on my wedding dress… With just over 3 months to go until my wedding I needed to know how it fit.

The zipper did not go up all the way. It didn’t fit.

I definitely was NOT happy. Yet, I didn’t panic. I didn’t cry.

I became MORE motivated than ever before to help lose weight and become fit and healthy for my wedding day, and beyond! As soon as I took off my wedding dress, I put my workout clothes and sneakers ON. I popped in my TurboFire DVD and got to WORK.

No Excuses.

I’m all about HARD WORK right now. I put in my Soul Mate workout and got to WORK with my Soul Mate trainer! Chalene Johnson makes me feel like I can reach my goals. I know I can. I will sweat for it. I will meal prep for it.

I will fit in my wedding dress and ROCK it in just 3 months.

NotSo30’s Official 3 Day Refresh Review!

Happy Monday everyone! I have received a LOT of questions regarding Beachbody’s Three Day Refresh, so I wanted to share my “official” review.

What is the Three Day Refresh?

Beachbody created a three-day cleanse as a reset button for your body. This is not a miracle cleanse where you lose 15 pounds in one week. No. This is a HEALTHY NON-STARVATION way of reducing bloat, jump starting a clean-eating program, and/or losing a few pounds prior to a big event.

What does the Three Day Refresh come with?

You will receive EVERYTHING you need to successfully complete the Three Day Refresh in a simple and clear manner. The only thing you need to get are your simple groceries! My box arrived with a booklet detailing what to eat and when for EACH of the three days and answers to many questions. It also has a list of the acceptable foods for the cleanse. The kit I purchased included 3 single-serve Shakeology packets (in a flavor that I got to choose), 3 Fiber Sweep drink packets (one for each day), and 6 Vanilla Refresh drink packets (two for each day).

What Makes this Cleanse Different for Others?

Ready for this?… You are SUPPOSED TO EAT with this cleanse. Yea. You read that right. You eat FOOD. Not just liquids for 3 days. Yes, you have to stick to the approved foods list, but you have fruits and veggies! Snacks, lunch and dinner… Being that it is a lower calorie program, the Shakeology and Vanilla Refresh are nutrient-rich drinks to help ensure that your body is getting the nutrition it needs.

Now It is Time to GET REAL… What was the Three Day Refresh REALLY like?

I have done a few cleanses in the past. Can we say HUNGRY? I was VERY impressed with this cleanse. First off, this cleanse let me eat HUMMUS. I looooove hummus. The fact that you are eating/drinking every couple of hours helps to make sure you aren’t going hungry. Now, I will be honest. I was not a fan of the Fiber Sweep, but I found a way of making sure I drank it every day. The ONLY change I made on days 2 and 3 were that I added the Fiber Sweep to my Vanilla Refresh shake! I also found that making the Vanilla Refresh and Shakeology into a blended drink with ice was yummier than just shaken in a shaker cup. It was great that I was able to add cinnamon and other “approved” flavors to help mix it up.

Any Tips for Someone Trying Three Day Refresh?

Yes! I made the mistake of eating the SAME thing three days in a row just because it took almost NO planning. I highly recommend you mix it up a little. This program takes minimal planning, so take a few minutes since it will help ensure your success.

Can you Exercise During the Refresh?

YES! The program allows mild to moderate exercise.

What Were Your Results and Would You Recommend this?

During my 3 days I did not exercise since I was barely even home! The program was easy to follow even for someone who was constantly ON THE GO! I lost 4 pounds and 5 inches! My clothes felt better on me and I did not feel as bloated! I definitely recommend this. I know I will be doing this another time before my wedding just to make sure that dress fits just right! It is that PERFECT jumpstart to getting to a healthier fitness goal!

Ummm… WOW.
Yea… I just lost 4 pounds and 5 inches with the 3 Day Refresh! These last 3 days have been CRAZY busy, but this cleanse was so easy that I barely had to think about what to eat and when… It was all so simple and broken down for me!
These results are without me working out during the 3 days… So I can only imagine that my results could have been over 5 pounds if I did!
Now, this isn’t some Miracle weight loss cure. It is a cleanse! It is a reset button! Now the responsibility is on ME to keep good clean eating habits and get my fitness on track!

3 Day Refresh Review – Day Two!

I have to admit that one of my FAVORITE things about the 3 Day Refresh is that I barely have to THINK! I wake up in the morning and almost my entire day is planned and ready. Now, let me not mislead you… There is a BIT of planning at the beginning… But honestly, it took me 10 minutes to review the food options, pick my favorites, and make my shopping list! Yea… You read that… FOOD OPTIONS… Cause this isn’t an all liquid cleanse!

Today I started day two… I did get a headache yesterday in the afternoon but that is because of the caffeine withdrawal and returning to work after being out for 5 days. The 3 Day Refresh DOES allow you to drink black coffee, but that’s just not for me. This morning I woke up feeling great. I FINALLY caught up on all of my sleep and I DID NOT FEEL HUNGRY.

I repeat, I DID NOT FEEL HUNGRY.

That is one of the first questions asked when someone is doing a cleanse – “But are you hungry?” Honestly, I’m not…

I am not weighing myself until the END of the 3 days… I have a feeling my results are going to blow me awayyyy and I want to see that WOW factor! That only BOOSTS my motivation to eat clean…

Hitting the Reset Button

The last week has been a little bit of madness!
I drove 10 hours within a 36 hour timespan to see my gorgeous nephew who was born 7/2/14… I celebrated my fiancé’s birthday and the anniversary of our engagement!… Oh and it so happened to be 4th of July weekend…

Now it is confession time… I ate HORRIBLY! Yes, I hang my head in shame! So, what’s a girl to do EXACTLY 4 months before she walks down the aisle?

Mission: Wedding Dress Fit and Confidant

I hear that in my head every time I pass the closet that I have my wedding dress hung up in. My brain keeps reminding me of the urgency to fit in my wedding dress in just under 5 months.

I wasn’t totally crazy when I ordered my dress. I didn’t order it 5 sizes smaller and guarantee that I would squeeze into it. With all of life’s pressures and stress, I knew I would be setting myself up for failure.

What I DID do was order my dress only one size smaller. ONE size. I absolutely know that with dedication I can get that dress to fit. Not only fit, but look amazing!

Also, with most wedding dresses, I need to work on my arms so that they complement my dress. I am setting up a workout routine for my arms so that they can be wedding dress-ready!

Here’s the bonus… If I lose more than one dress size, I just have to have the dress taken in a bit.

So here I am, just under 5 months away from my wedding and I am sending out a call to all my fellow Fall Brides…

How to 21 Day Fix at Starbucks

Today I just couldn’t get motivated to get out of bed. It didn’t help that BeBe (my 10-year-old, 80 pound puppy) decided that 4:40am was the appropriate time to wake up and have breakfast. So I relied on my tried and true method of getting myself out of bed for work… I began listing all of my bills.

Car Insurance, Gas, Groceries, Cell Phone, Rent, Student Loans, Credit Cards. Yup. That does the trick.

The problem with this morning was that I was running  a little late and ran out of the house (okay, I walked out of the house) without preparing any of today’s food. At work I keep fruit on hand for snacks, but I needed something for breakfast.

HELLOOOOO STARBUCKS.

I know, I know. Starbucks is a high-calorie TRAP.

But not if you are SMART about it!

So how exactly can you go to Starbucks all while sticking to the 21 Day Fix eating plan? Tea and the Starbucks Protein box will become your best friends!

I don’t eat the bread, since I’m not a fan of it. The bread alone is a yellow container, which I prefer to save for another meal. Also, I avoid the peanut butter. Although the peanut butter is good, it represents 3 teaspoons on the plan. I tend to save the peanut butter and eat half of it later for a snack.

The best part of the protein box are the apple slices, grapes, hard-boiled egg and cheese. (Throw out the salt!)

The fruit count for about 1 to 1.5 purple containers (depending on the apple slices and grape count). The hard-boiled egg is half a red container and the cheese counts as a blue!

With patience and smart choices, you too can 21 Day Fix on the go!

My 21 Day Fix Round 1 Results!

Most everyone has seen the same stock before and after images of 21 Day Fix results. Some of them are from one round, others are the before/after results of multiple rounds. I have to admit that the picture that was MOST encouraging was the one of the woman who lost approximately 96 pounds after 10 rounds of 21 Day Fix. Why did this one really get my attention? Because I don’t have 10-15 pounds to lose… I have OVER 50 pounds to lose! That picture SHOWED me that this program could work on a plus size person.

Last week I completed my FIRST round of 21 Day Fix, and I have to admit – I loved it. This program isn’t the “easy way out”. No. I worked for my weight loss. I exercised EVERY day. I ate HEALTHY. I didn’t pop pills. I was careful with portion control.

Well, here it is ladies and gentleman. MY 21 Day Fix Round 1 Results!

Measurements

  • Left Arm: No Change
  • Right Arm: -0.5 inches
  • Chest: -2.25 inches
  • Waist: -4 inches
  • Hips: -2 inches
  • Left Leg: No Change
  • Right Leg: -0.25 inches

TOTAL INCHES LOST: 9 INCHES! NINE! YES! NINE!

TOTAL WEIGHT LOST: 11.8 POUNDS! In just 21 Days!

I placed my measurements first, as I believe that is where the emphasis should always be!

And for visual proof, here are my before and after pictures. Yes, the photography technique needs improvement… I will work on that for this round… But check out my belly/waist… I FEEEEEL the difference in my clothes. It is AWESOME!

Mom’s Juicy Turkey Burger Recipe

As I mentioned previously, I have this recipe that I MUST share with you (courtesy of my mom)! These turkey burgers are JUICY, DELICIOUS and VERY simple to make! Very easy to pre-make for meal prep!

RECIPE FOR MY MOM’S JUICY TURKEY BURGERS!!!!!!!!

Kitchen Tools

  • Large bowl
  • Plastic wrap
  • Large ziplock bag
  • Cutting board
  • Your favorite knife for chopping produce

Ingredients

  • 2 packages of ground turkey (approx. 2 to 2.5 pounds)
  • 8 ounces of chopped up button mushrooms
  • Approximately 4 ounces of chopped up baby spinach
  • 3 tablespoons of EVOO
  • 1/4 of Quaker quick oats
  • Pepper
  • Sea Salt (not too much)

Instructions

  • Take your plastic wrap and pre-cut about 8-9 sheets the size of a hard cover book. Don’t remember what that looks like? Think – iPad Mini…
  • Take your mushrooms and chop them you. You want a medium chop. To give you a visual, the pieces should be about the size of two corn kernels.
  • Now chop your spinach in a fine chop. You don’t want an entire leaf to be rolled into a burger!
  • In a pan warm up your EVOO on Medium and once the EVOO is hot add in your mushrooms and spinach.
  • Mix, Mix, Mix, Mix, Mix!
  • Add in the oats when you see your mushrooms have started to soften
  • Mix, Mix, Mix, Mix, Mix!
  • After the oats are incorporated and softened a bit add the mushrooms/spinach/oats mix to a large bowl containing your ground turkey.
  • Now, the icky part! Use you hands to start combining the ingredients. As you are working the mix add the pepper and salt.
  • (REMEMBER! In order to keep a sanitary work environment, pre-measure your salt and pepper. This way your turkey hands aren’t roaming around the kitchen!)
  • NOW! It is PATTY time!
  • Take out portions of the turkey mix approximately the size of a very large lemon. Roll it around in your hands and then flatten with the palm and heel of your hands.
  • Wrap the patties that you want to store in the plastic wrap and place inside of a large ziplock bag.
  • When done WASH THOSE HANDS!

Cooking Instructions

  • My mother’s technique works best! Place inside of a George Foreman grill for exactly 8 minutes. Plan on making some ahead to microwave at work? Then cook those only for 7 minutes.
  • If you do not have a George Foreman grill, take a frying pan and give it the quickest spray with non-stick cooking spray. Cook on each side of the patty at medium-high heat for 5-6 minutes.

I like to serve the turkey burgers with some lettuce on a sandwich thin. As a side, skip the chips! Humus and carrots are filling and a MUCH healthier and delicious option! Also, this is a perfect example of one of the meals that I ate during the 21 Day Fix!
